Mike Pompeo’s CIA confirmation hearings took a dark turn thanks to Russia. Or at least, that’s what it seemed like when the power went out almost instantly after Senator Mark Warner asked Pompeo about Russia’s role in the 2016 election.

This of course prompted conspiracy theories, even from senators themselves!

The cause of the outage seems to be fairly innocuous, despite the obvious jokes that Russian interference was at play. The Senate superintendent “attributed the outage throughout the Hart Senate Office Building to an electrical company conducting work in the neighborhood.”

The hearing was ultimately moved to another room, but former Senate Majority Leader (and all-around funny person) Bob Dole saw nothing wrong with the first room: “My eyesight is not too good, so I thought it was perfect in the other room.”

As amusing as this incident was, there might be cause for concern, since C-SPAN’s online feed of the House of Representatives was replaced by footage from RT, a Russian station.

C-SPAN believes that this was an honest mistake, but will update the situation as needed.
